They’re up and running

By PETER DOUGLAS

FOR the fitness fanatics in the region, summer is when the training regime of the most dedicated heats up.
So what more perfect way to test out all your hard work than through aiming to complete the Warburton Up and Running Fun Run this February.
Set a goal, get running and just watch all that hard toil in the summer months pay off.
The finish line will be more than worth the effort.
So too will be one of the most beautiful, scenic landscapes that you can take in while counting down the kilometres.
Competitors will run alongside the clear waters of the Upper Yarra River, among the towering Mountain Ash forest.
Events include a 2km kids’ run, 5km walk, 10km run and a half-marathon.
Since its inception, the event, which is run entirely by volunteers, has proven enormously popular among a healthy mix of locals and visitors.
Recent improvements to the running track and introduction of a half-marathon event and electronic timing have all made the event even more enjoyable for the hundreds who participate each year.
Event co-ordinators are looking forward to breaking last year’s record number of entries, as well as record donations to local organisations.
Through their participation, competitors will be supporting the Warburton CFA and Upper Yarra SES.
For something a little different this year, organisers have introduced a new team competition.
This will be an aggregate of the combined total distance run by all members of the team – so times will not be a deciding factor.
All team members will be included and all events will count.
Team members are still eligible for individual prizes.
